About Zoilamérica

Educator, Community Organizer, Human Rights Defender

Zoilamérica has worked for more than 30 years in the field of violence prevention and conflict transformation In Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and around the globe. Beginning in the 1990’s, she facilitated reconciliation workshops between members of the Resistance and the Sandinista army, enabling a network of Peace Promoters in 30 Nicaraguan municipalities that continued for over a decade.  Building on this critical experience, she has worked with countless community organizations and social movements of youth, women and municipal leaders, leading training in violence prevention and conflict resolution, developing research strategies, and empowering political action. For more than six years, she contributed to a Central American Alliance on Sexual Diversity where she learned, grew, and forged a vision of a new, inclusive political culture.

Since her own exile in Costa Rica in 2013, Zoilamérica has reached out to groups of Central American exiles and refugees, where she has contributed her skills in political analysis, building social integration and developing resilience. Working with community groups, international development organizations and social movements, she has honed her skill in designing research and advocacy strategies.  

Zoilamérica is currently on staff at a university in San José, focused on quality management in higher education.   A mother of three, she lives with her youngest son in San José.
